This series of fashion editorial photographs focuses on the play between shadow and silhouette. After studying the works of surrealist photographers - Dora Maar, Abdulla Elmaz and Tim Walker - I have used refraction photography to highlight details and add a theatrical element often seen in fashion photography. When light passes from one medium into another angled or curved medium, it affects the speed and direction of the light producing a distorted and magnified effect - this is refraction. In this series I have used glass bowls, cups and wine glasses filled with water, as well as a magnifying glass to further distort and enhance elements in the photographs. My intention for this series was to create a professional and stylised fashion editorial using everyday objects and improvised photography equipment.
